Moving On...

This past weekend I moved. My back hurts and I have a ton of bruises. I can't lift heavy things because I am super weak. But now my bedroom is all set up and I'm able to relax. I just have to put stuff on my walls because its pretty boring in there. I'm hoping to have Internet this weekend. I hope it happens.
I also started school yesterday. This semester is going to be tough. My English Lit class looks like a lot of fun but loads of work. But we get to read Hamlet, I rule at Shakespeare. Bio seems easy but I have to do a lot of reading. Kind of feels like high school all over again. I can't wait to transfer.

Fold the corners, break the silence

On July 19th I was lucky enough to catch Finch at The Glass House in Pomona, CA. I've been a fan for a long time and was bummed when I heard they broke up. So now that they have reunited, I knew I had to seem them live!
So The Glass House is kind of a dinky club. It's in downtown Pomona and from the outside it doesn't look like much. It's the same inside. The place was swarming with scene kids. I missed the first band, Tickle Me Pink, but from what I have heard, I didn't miss much. I walked in during Foxy Shazam's set. They're perform ace with full of energy and it was quite a spectacle to watch. But their music made me want to leave. My boyfriend isn't a fan of indie or whatever they are. He also isn't a fan of the Dresden Dolls. He described Foxy Shazam as a gay version of the Dresden Dolls. They seemed to have a few fans but the crowd didn't know what to make of them, neither did I.
I was almost jumping for joy when their set ended. It should've come sooner. But little did I know, Scary Kids Scaring Kids wasn't going to be much better. The only song I have heard from them is a cover song off of Punk Goes Crunk. The band itself wasn't that bad but the lead singer and the synth player killed it. The lead singer sounded and looked like a douche. He was trying too hard to be Davey Havok, and since AFI has gone mainstream, no one likes Davey Havok. And the guy on the synths, oh my! He looked like a Coheed and Cambria reject and was jumping around like he was the singer. Just shut up already. There were two stage divers during SKSK's set. One jumped off from the center of the stage only to get heckled by security. And the other was less successful. He dived from the right corner of the stage (where I was at). He dove, and no one caught him. He landed on his hip as laughed at. In my opinion, he deserved it. People who stage dive/crowd surf deserve to be kicked. It was great how everyone moved away!
From the end of SKSK's set to Finch setting up felt like forever. I was hot and my feet hurt. Randy came out to set up as was really nice to all the fans. He was talking to a few kids. He gained to some weight so the skinny jeans he was wearing were not flattering. My boyfriend said he looked like a douche but he seems like a real nice guy.
So when Finch hit the stage I was more than excited! They opened with Perfect Through Silence (my favorite song). I don't remember the set list since its been awhile and they played some songs I didn't know. But they did play Stay With Me, Worms of the Earth, and other songs off of What It Is To Burn and Say Hello to Sunshine. They also played some songs off their brand spanking new EP. During their set Nate apologized to the people in the front row because he said he smelled like a yak. Apparently, his cat peed on his shirt and he didn't notice the smell. So when he started sweating he was able to smell it. Ew. Their set was full of energy and playful banter. Nate looks really young is a lot better looking in person. Finch did a great show, and Nate looks like someone I know.
The new Finch EP is available today at your local Hot Topic. It's also available on iTunes.

Here's a link to Randy's blog post about that nights show.

D'OH!

Its been a long time since I last blogged. It's not like I have been busy, just lazy.
I haven't worked on my video blog, or made a new one. I just stopped obsessing over it. I currently have the time to do it but since my dog chewed up my ethernet cable, I can't get online at home. I'm hoping to get it fixed soon but I don't know when.
I'll try blogging when I can. I have a lot to say but I just can't seem to articulate anything.

Not really, but my blog needed a name change. It doesn't mean anything, its just random. Maybe I'll make a fun layout if I get or feel creative.

Letting You

Echoplex

You stick like a bloodstain on my sleeve...

I had the wonderful opportunity to see this band at this years Vans Warped Tour. If you read my review you know that I was heading towards Against Me's set. The stage was ghetto. It looked like they built it last minute and said, "Here, perform here." When I got to the stage there was hardly anyone there, maybe ten people maximum but by the end of their set it was swarming with people. They were located between some concession stands and a half pipe. Tatiana, the lead singer, introduced the band and then went right into a song. It as loud, fast, and everything punk rock should be.

TAT is a three piece punk band from London, England. Tatiana on lead vocals and lead guitar, Nick on bass and vocals, and Jake on drums and vocals. This is their second year touring on Warped Tour and have a growing fanbase. They have opened for bands like The Offspring. They will continue touring after Warped Tour as support for Lagwagon.

For more information check out their MySpace.

Is it Happy Hour yet?

A Long Island Iced Tea sounds fantastic.

I have a few complaints today. I went out for lunch because I was too lazy to fix anything up this morning. On my way to Subway some random guy just yells "HEY BABY!" I am not your baby. I wasn't going to argue with the moron but this is no way to get a womans attention. Why is it that men constantly feel the need to yell such things to get a womans attention. Why don't they just walk up politely and give her a compliment. I don't understand it.

Complaint #2: I actually did my hair and make-up today. I don't know how long its been but it came out good. While I was ordering my sandwich everything was normal. Everyone had the same monotone voice, "what kind of bread" "do you want cheese?" "toasted?". Nothing out of the ordinary. When I got up to the register the cashier cheers with glee "HELLO!!!", it kind of scared me, I was caught off guard. I mean he was incredibly nice and actually had some sort of happy expression on his face. He wasn't like that a few seconds earlier. Why did he greet me in that manner and not the lady infront of me? Then I realized that stuff like this happens all the time. You get treated better when you look good. Oh, how shallow we are!

Punk rock is not dead!

80 degree weather is rare in San Francisco and considering the weather lately it wasn't expected. Warped Tour was held at Piers 30 and 32 in San Francisco, getting there was fairly easy because BART drops you off right at Embarcadero. But actually getting the the venue proved to be a problem. I've been to the Piers plenty of time, I've been going there since I was a kid but I never ventured to the other side. So one my trek to Piers 30/32 I noticed that I heard no music, nothing, nada. It was dead. I stop in front of Pier 29 and then continue to what i thought was Pier 30 but no, it skipped to Pier 31. What was I missing? I was so lost and the lack of music bothered me. I asked some guy who was working at Pier 33 and he told me I need to go under the bridge. Under the bridge? There was a bridge at the Piers? Well, he was talking about the Bay Bridge. I had no idea there were Piers in the other direction. I just spent the last 15 minutes walking in the wrong direction. But I wasn't the only one, there were TONS of kids walking in the wrong direction. It was embarrassing because I pride myself in knowing San Francisco, so this was a blow to my ego.
So I spent about 30 minutes getting the Piers 30/32. When I finally arrived I found out that I had just missed The Devil Wears Prada. Also, Norma Jean finished their set 30 minutes before I arrived. It was upsetting but life goes on. Seven different stages and new music for me to discover, and that is exactly what I did!

  • The Lordz were the first band I caught because there was no one I wanted to see for awhile. They hail from Brooklyn, New York and their accents are very heavy and kind of cute. Their set was full of energy but I wasn't really digging their music. They sounded like a Transplants knock off and they tired too hard to come off like they were real tough, it felt fake and forced. I walked away feeling unimpressed.
  • Chaser was just a hop, skip, and a jump. I've never heard them before but they caught my attention. Fast, hard hitting, throat slashing, punk fucking rock! There was a nice mosh pit forming when I got to the stage. A four piece punk band from Southern California. The lead singer wore the uniform, Dickie shorts, Chucks, and a white tee shirt. He reminded me of Maynard from Tool, if he were a punk. Half way through their set they encountered some technical difficulties. The second guitarist was having some issues. The other guitarist decided to sing and play You Don't Always Die from Tobacco from the Truth commercials. They tried to kill as much time but when they started up again they did not lose their energy. Despite the guitar issues they put on a great show!
  • Katy Perry was next on my trek. When I got to the stage she was performing at there was a sea of girls. Hardly any males in sight, except for those who were with their girlfriends. Because I was with my sisters, we decided to stop and watch since they're fans of hers. Her band was wearing some sort of girly uniform despite being all males. They wore a white button up shirt with pink ties and pink guitar straps. When Katy finally got to the stage, she opened with Like a Virgin and danced around with a parasol. She then went into One of the Boys. The crowd was pretty tame compared to Chaser's set. Katy was vulgar and sassy and just adorable. But at the same time she reminded me so much of Lily Allen. I just went with the flow, it was a fun energetic set filled with girliness and sass! She closed her set with I Kissed a Girl and the crowd was loving it. Katy was barely audible among the girls who were singing along, myself included. Katy definitely brought the girliness out and it was just fun.
  • TAT was stumbbled upon by accident. I was on my way to one of the main stages to see Against Me! but got sidelined by a smaller stage. TAT was still setting up when I got there. Boy was I glad I stopped there! Hailing from London, England is a three piece punk band with a female lead. She has amazing stage presence and interacted with the crowd so well. They made a fan out of me! Before one of their songs the lead singer proclaimed she had a big cock. This left the crowd somewhat confused but they went along with it. Well, midway though the song she showed us her big cock. She did her solo with her guitar behind her back. Once she finished she yelled, "I told you I had a big cock!" After their set I went over to their booth and bought their EP.
  • Reel Big Fish was at the main stage. I was able to find a spot where I could see. They opened their set with Sell Out. Once the trumpets started their crowd new which song it was and the moshing began. I didn't know you could mosh to ska. Their set was full of energy and comedy. One of the trumpet players was mocking the crowd. They got the energy going but asking people to clap and jump. One thing that annoyed me to no end were those who wanted to crowd surf. Crowd surfers annoy me. But all was not lost, they closed their set with a cover of A-Ha's Take on Me. I was thrilled and sang at the top of my lungs. Sadly, there were no skankers, I wasn't going to get in the mosh pit.
  • Action Design were the main reason I wanted to go to Warped Tour. I met the band earlier that day when I went to buy their new CD. They signed a poster for me, I was giddy to say the least. There were a few technical difficulties during their set too. The sound tech didn't turn M's mic up enough, so the crowd was hardly able to hear her. But that didn't stop them from doing a great set. They mixed things up a bit. They opened with a new song but also incorporated songs from their EP. M has a great amount of energy, even when she has to stand in front of her keyboard. They closed their set with Connect/Disconnect and I lost my voice!
  • HorrorPops were the last band I caught. But because the Action Design's set started at 6:15 and the HorrorPops went on at 6:20, I caught the last two songs of their set. When I skipped to their set Patricia Day was asking the crowd to howl. At that instant I knew they were about to play Walk Like a Zombie So I ran to the nearest open spot I could find. All I could see was Patricia's enormous beehive, she's giving Amy Winehouse a run for her money. During the song Patricia and Kim played back to back, it was adorable. They closed with a new song from their latest album. The little bit I caught was fun. I had a great time.

I had a great time. I bypassed the headlining bands and opted for the smaller stages. I made the right choice considering who was headlining. When I left the Piers Gym Class Heros were starting Cupids Chokehold. I had no desire to see them nor Angeles & Airwaves. I skipped Pennywise because I was intimidated by the crowd and didn't want to get hurt, I'm such a wuss.

The One and Only

Live 105, local rock station, has been playing some awesome music lately. They are the only rock/alternative radio station the Bay Area, so they have a lot to live up to. But they have really stepped up their game. And now that BFD 2008 is this weekend, they have shown a lot of support to local bands and some awesome new bands.

  • Flogging Molly - They have always supported this band and when Drunken Lullabies was released it was in heavy rotation. Who doesn't like Celtic punk?
  • Flobots - "Handlebars" has been played a lot. It just goes to show that they play a variety of music on Live 105. They are also scheduled to play at BFD on Saturday.
  • Ting Tings - "Great DJ" is fun and bouncy. Mad love to bands from across the pond.
  • The Whigs - Electropop. See they don't exclusive play rock music.
  • The Action Design - I am in love with this band. Everyone needs to buy the Into a Sound EP. Its indie pop punk with an awesome female lead vocalist. Two band member were in Tsunami Bomb before the break-up. They were on Soundcheck last week, Soundcheck is a local radio show that showcases up and coming and local bands. I have nothing but mad love for this band!
  • Santogold - Many have compared her to M.I.A. but I think she can stand on her own. She will also be at BFD.

Everyone should listen to Live 105, they don't have shit on KROQ. When I'm in the Los Angeles area I find myself missing Live 105. Their DJ's aren't pretentious and pretend to know about the latest coolest trends in music, they feel very real. Go listen, they stream live from their website. Go!!

We all just wanna be big rockstars...

So lately I have been contemplating purchasing Rock Band. I have played it once and I had a blast. Now that summer is here and I have more time to dick around, I thought, you know what would be fun? So within the next few days I hope to get this. While I don't own a PS3 nor a 360, my brother-in-law does, and he hardly uses it. What better way to bond with friends and family? I could read a book and take a walk but you can't pretend to be a rock star while doing either!

So Much Love

Friday was full of love and acceptance. I attended California's Great America presents Gay Day. After 5pm the park was closed to the public and only those who bought tickets to this function could enter. Half the park was closed and two large stages were set up. The main stage near the entrance had a DJ and different performers. The second stage was the "Latin Stage" and it had its share of performers and games. Needless to say, I was mostly stationed at the Latin Stage, and that is where the good roller coasters are.
The atmosphere was perfect, lots of love, especially since the lift on the ban on gay marriage in California, a great way to celebrate!
I didn't stick around for the performers and I only caught a glimpse at a few while standing in line for rides. The music made standing in line less pain full and the TV screens around the park had gay themed commercials and whatnot. Yummy boys in thongs!
Next year I will definitely attend but maybe with a different group.

House of Sand and Fog

I have to read this book for my English final on Tuesday. I'm about half way through and I still cannot get into it. Its a slow read. Both of the main characters are unlikable, but they are unlikable in a bad way. You feel bad for neither of them and I cannot seem to relate to either.
Kathy Nicolo irritates me. She has done nothing with her life. She is also throwing her sobriety away. She can't get her life together and now she is letting herself get carried away with an unavailable man. She only thinks about the present and does not the bigger picture. Her imprudence has caused her to lose her home that she shares ownership with her brother. While the city made a mistake, she decided not to open her mail, thus letting the problem get bigger.
I think I find Kathy far more irritating than Behrani. But he is also a S.O.B. I just feel bad for his wife and son. He doesn't realize that appearing wealthy is only making his financial situation worse.
I'm just so sick of this book.

For Love

Yesterday California overturned a ban of gay marriage. Its not legal yet but soon, I hope. I've never understood the ban, except those Christian fundamentalist with a political agenda. It hurts no one and who's to say they can't marry. There is supposed to be a separation between church and state. Either way, the road to legalization of gay marriage will be a long tough one. C'mon California, I know we can do it!

I'm Tired

Finals are just around the corner and then I'll be able to breath easy once more.
Not much has gone on, just studying and doing stuff for extra credit.
Once school is out I plan on working out. I'll see how that works out.
The other day I bought my tickets for the Warped Tour on June 21st in San Francisco!! Yes, I will be going. I also found out that The Action Design will be releasing their first full length album the first week of June! Yay for awesome music. I'm really excited!

Epic Fail

I saw Iron Man last night. It had been a rough day and my boyfriend and his friends wanted to go see it. I said fine, I really wanted to see Baby Mama but I thought I'd be nice. We caught the 11:55pm show. The movie didn't actually start until 12:05. So the beginning caught my attention but after that I was seriously fighting sleep. Now, I've got to plenty of midnight showings and I have NEVER fallen asleep. If a movie is good enough I'll stay awake. But 50 mins. in I was passed out. The only reason I woke up was because of the booms and whatnot. After that I was able to stay awake, a little bit.
I have never read an Iron Man comic ever, I know nothing of Iron Man. But the fact that I was able to predict the entire movie really bothered me. And Gwyneth Paltrow, oh my god, Gwyneth Paltrow. She was terrible, very very bad.
The effects were pretty good but the final fight was less than impressive. I'm still pissed I paid $22.00 for a shitty movie.

Wiiiiiiings!

I'm on my way to tweaking out.

Because there was some drama last night I wasn't able to get to bed until 2:30 am. I wake up 6am to get ready for work. I'm trying to stay awake.....

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Oh No! Oh Yes!

As predicted I fell asleep in class. Again, the film was boring and I was tired. I usually hate sleeping in class but since the film was for our enjoyment, I didn't feel so bad.
In my cultural anthropology, I was presented with the opportunity of getting extra credit. I think I will take it because I didn't turn in an asignment and I didn't do so hot on my last test. Hooray for extra credit!
On a sadder note, I maxed out the memory on my iPod. Yes, I have 30 gb of music on my iPod. But this provides with the oppurtunity get the latest iPod Classic with 160 gb worth of memory. I just don't have the money for anything right now.

Can't Sleep, Clowns Will Eat Me

Ok, so maybe I'm a little tired. But for some reason I'm refusing to sleep. But its not so bad because in my first class we're watching a movie. Like on Monday, I'll sit near the front, position myself so you can't see my face, and pass out for an hour. I know that bad but the film is boring. I'm pretty sure its a good informative film but its too early.

So I'm a reality TV whore. I watch most of the ones on MTV and VH1. And the latest season of A Shot at VD has started. And so far I don't like the people this season. Last season the people seemed real. The guys are huge douche bags. And what was with that guy that actually put his dick in a box, that was real brave, or stupid.
Either way, its unrealistic to find true on national TV. People audition for these things to gain exposure. Plus, most of them are looking to bang Tila Tequila but I don't want to know where she has been.
The only positive thing that has come from her reality show is putting the gay community in a positive light. I know that sounds really weird and you won't believe me but I think its true. For example, Dani from last season seemed very sincere. A lot of the lesbians don't subscribe to their stereotype. Lesbians come in all different shapes and sizes, they're not like the pseudo-lesbians from the Girls Gone Wild videos. I'm not sure where I am going with this because I need sleep. BUT I REFUSE!

Whos Milkshake?

I know I haven't been posting much. I've been pretty lazy. School has me burnt out. I just want the semester to be over. While I like my classes, I feel like I don't have enough time for a social life. So lack of human contact has got me down.

Anyways, this weekend there will be many Cinco de Mayo festivities!! That mean a lot of Mexican music, tequila, and colorful clothing! I'm hoping to partake in these celebrations. Plus, Oscar de la Hoya is fighting. So if I end up not doing any of the above, I can always watch Oscar, yum.

Music You Should Check Out:

Puscifer - V is for Viagra The Remixes

The remix album to V is for Vagina. While I enjoyed Vagina more than Viagra its still a pretty good remix album.

Yelle - Pop Up

While watching the Coachella webcast I was seriously attracted to her energy. Especially since she was on after Flogging Molly and they did a fantastic job. So going on after Flogging Molly was a difficult task but she pulled it off. I haven't finished listening to Pop Up but I believe all songs are in French. So far I have really enjoyed her music.

It's Official!!!!

I'm going to the Nine Inch Nails show in September! I'll be flying to LA to go with my boyfriend. His internship won't allow him to go to the Oakland show. Either way I am super excited.
I saw them in 2006 and it was the best concert I have ever been too. It was like a religious experience, if I was religious. That just made my day!
I also managed to make plans for tonight. A friend of a friend is holding some sort of beerfest. Lots of fun and booze!

agoraphobia

Don't expect anything deep. I don't like to take myself seriously and I am comfortable being a dork.

I have decided that I am not going out this weekend. I have tons of homework to do and I am putting it off until last minute. I'll probably hang out with my home girl tomorrow. She's actually my chick friend.
This blog isn't going to be anything special. I'll post about things that I find interesting or to vent. Most likely to vent. Expect celebrity gossip (omg I'm so creative!) because my life is so boring.
Adios!
